Liposuction

If diets and exercise regimens have not been enough to help you achieve your ideal figure, you are not alone. Our bodies are predisposed to store fat in specific locations, which for most people means that fat is deposited in the last place they would ever want it to go. If you can identify with this situation, then you may find a solution in liposuction.

For decades liposuction has proven to be a safe and effective method to remove pockets of fat that that seemed immune to diet and exercise. Liposuction can help you achieve the sculpted & toned figure you aspire.

Thanks to its ability to sculpt a wide range of body areas and its short recovery time, liposuction has become one of the most common body contouring procedures performed by Dr. Gibson.

Which areas can be treated with Liposuction?

Both men and women can benefit from body sculpting enhancements achieved through liposuction. This procedure can be used in almost any area of the body where excess fat is present and wants to be removed.

The most common areas treated with liposuction are:

  • Hips

  • Thighs

  • Buttocks

  • Breasts

  • Upper arms

  • Abdomen

  • Back

  • Face, neck, and jowls

  • Chest (male breast reduction)

Liposuction is often performed as part of mommy makeovers to eliminate undesired baby fat after childbirth, restoring your pre-pregnancy figure.

Am I a Candidate for Liposuction?

Liposuction could be the ideal procedure for those who have stubborn pockets of fat that are not going away with diet and exercise.

Candidates for liposuction:

  • Are in good health

  • Exercise normally

  • Stay physically fit

  • Present one or more areas of fat to be removed

  • Present good skin elasticity

  • Are within 20 pounds of their ideal weight

Remember that liposuction is not a mechanism for weight loss. It is used to achieve a more ideal body contour. Liposuction can be a useful complement to diet and exercise efforts, but it should never be considered a substitute.

Liposuction Techniques

No two liposuction procedures are ever the same. Dr. Gibson will customize your liposuction to address your unique body shape and aesthetic goals.

Facial Liposuction

While liposuction is commonly associated with body contouring, it can also be extremely effective as a facial enhancement procedure. It can address isolated fatty deposits in the cheeks, jawline, and neck that don't respond well to diet and exercise.

Dr. Gibson can perform facial liposuction to effectively remove excess fat from the following areas of the face:

  • Neck

  • Cheeks

  • Jowls

  • Along the jawline

  • Under the chin

Dr. Gibson can use facial liposuction to help you banish the appearance of saggy jowls or a double chin to help you achieve a more sculpted and contoured jawline producing a more refined facial contour.

Very fine cannulas are used for facial liposuction, and it's frequently referred to as “microsuction.” The tiny incisions done in this procedure are almost imperceptible after a quick healing period.

Liposuction Recovery and Follow-Up Care

Following liposuction surgery, you usually can go home the same day after a quick recovery period

Special compression garments will be necessary for a period of three to six weeks to control the swelling and help set your new body contour.  It is normal to experience some discomfort after the liposuction procedure; however, it is usually fairly mild.

Dr. Gibson will encourage you to return to your regular physical activity as soon as you feel comfortable with it. You should engage in a regular exercise regimen following surgery; however, you will need to abstain from vigorous activity for up to 4-6 weeks. It's normal for most patients to return to work within one week.

Liposuction results should be noticeable immediately, but your new body shape will continue to improve as the swelling subsides. After your procedure, Dr. Gibson will provide you with a wound care protocol to minimize the appearance of the small incisions caused by this procedure

Fat Transplantation

It's now possible to put your undesired fat to great use. Dr. Gibson can use fat transplantation in conjunction with procedures such as breast augmentation and facelifts to add volume and fullness.

Dr. Gibson employs sophisticated techniques to harvest, process, and transplant fat cells to achieve a natural appearance. If you are looking to enhance the size and shape of your breasts while improving your body contour, then fat transplantation may be the perfect procedure for you.
