Benefits of Enhancement via Breast Augmentation

The main benefit of breast augmentation is the improvement in breast appearance. The results of your procedure are not only limited to the size of your breasts, but it can also improve:

  • Breast projection

  • Breast symmetry

  • Cleavage

  • Lost volume caused by age, pregnancy, or weight loss

In addition to an enhanced breast appearance, many women also enjoy these benefits after breast augmentation:

  • Feeling more youthful

  • Improved self-confidence

  • Ability to fit better in clothing and swimsuits

  • Improved social opportunities

Breast Implant Sizing

Deciding on the ideal breast implant size, type, and shape to suit your unique body requires experience, talent, and an artistic eye. Many elements are to be considered, and Dr. Gibson will work with you to help you achieve a breast size and shape that not only looks natural but meets your aesthetic goals.

Breast implant sizes:
Bigger isn't always better. An unusually large implant size might not be right for your body type.

Dr. Gibson will consider several factors when suggesting the ideal breast implant size and type for you, including:

  • Desired final cup size

  • Your lifestyle and types of physical activity

  • Your height, weight, chest, and breast dimensions

  • The amount of breast tissue already present

  • Skin elasticity

Breast implant sizing starts at your initial apointment. Dr Gibson will guide you through the selection process by using a variety of techniques, including sample implants, to give you a better sense of what your new breasts will look like. However, it is impossible to provide an exact model of your new breasts, any visualization tools used are designed to guide you in your sizing decision.

The final breast size is one of the most critical and challenging elements of breast augmentation; that's why Dr. Gibson spends a great deal of time to defineclearly your desired breast size and appearance.

Breast Implant Placement

When creating your personalized breast augmentation plan, one of the most important decisions you will make with Dr. Gibson is the placement of your breast implants. There are two breast implant placement options to choose from:

  • Subglandular placement (over the muscle)

  • Submuscular placement (under the muscle)

Subglandular placement offers a variety of benefits, including:

  • Quicker recovery time

  • More lift

  • Allows for larger breast implants

  • Ease of placement

  • More well-defined cleavage

If you choose submuscular placement, the breast implant will be placed behind the chest muscle. This is an ideal alternative for petite women with little breast tissue, because it will produce better coverage of the implant, while giving  more support, reducing the likelihood of sagging.

Other benefits of submuscular placement include:

  • More natural look and feel

  • No unnatural movement of the breast

  • Less obstruction with a mammogram

  • Reduced risk of capsular contractures

  • Reduced risk of rippling

Incision Placement

When considering breast augmentation, there are three incision options. There are pros and cons to each option, working with Dr Gibson you will determine which option will give you the best results for your unique aesthetic goals.

The two main breast augmentation incision options are:

  • Inframammary

  • Peri-areolar

During your  consultation, Dr. Gibson will discuss with you each incision option and recommend the best one for you.

The inframammary incision is performed at the breast crease (where your breast meets your rib cage); this is the most used breast augmentation incision since it gives the plastic surgeon the best control when placing the breast implant.

Peri-areolar incisions are made around the nipple. It normally results in a thin scar that blends in with the nipples areola, making it the less visible scar, when compared with other incision options.

The peri-areolar incision creates a very precise breast implant pocket, making it the ideal option for saline or silicone breast implants. Due to the location of the incision, its ideal to repair nipple inversion.

Saline vs. Silicone Breast Implants

For the final step of your decision process you'll have to choose between saline and silicone implants.  Excellent results can be obtained with both types of breast implants. Each has unique strengths and drawbacks; this is why it's important for you to fully understand their differences, in order to choose the right option to achieve your aesthetic goals.

Saline breast implants have been extremely popular for decades, and thousands of women continue to experience outstanding results with this type implants today. Saline brest implants are approved by the FDA for their use in women 18 years old and over. They area silicone shell filled with sterile saline solution.

Benefits of choosing saline breast implants:

  • The main benefit of saline implants is that they can be filled after they are inserted in the body, providing greater control over the size of your implants' size. It also makes it easier to correct breast asymmetry

  • In the event that the implant is ruptured, the saline solution is safely absorbed by your body

  • The necessary incision is smaller than with silicone implants, minimizing scarring

  • They tend to be less expensive than silicone implants

After decades of research into the safety of silicone breast implants,  FDA re-approved them in 2006 for use with women 22 years old and older

The silicon implant consists of a silicone shell containing a cohesive silicone gel.

The main benefit of silicone breast implants is a much more natural result to the sight and touch, making them extremely popular in recent years. For this reason, Dr. Gibson often recommends silicone breast implants to their patients.
